DRAGON'S LAIR / SPACE ACE ENGINEERING MODE - March 20, 2000
Written by Jeff Kulczycki

INTRODUCTION

Engineering mode was designed to let the engineers play-test a scene without having to play through the whole game.  This document will show you how to get into engineering mode and how to use it.

THEORY OF OPERATION (and other notes)

When the Engineering Mode is enabled, DIP Switch B acts as the level select according to the table below.  While in Engineering Mode, the specific scene will play over and over continuously.  For Dragon's Lair you use DIP A3 OFF to get into Engineering Mode and DIP B to select the scene.  You must set these dip switches *before* you power up the game.  The game will start normally with the attract mode.  Insert your coins and press the player select.  The game will then jump immediately to the scene that you have selected.  The only way to exit Engineering Mode is to shut the machine off and reset your dip switches.

You will have a slight problem using Engineering Mode on revision F and F2 EPROM's.  This is because later versions remap the B3 DIP for selecting which laser disc player you are using.  If you have this ROM version, you'll have to leave B3 set to wherever it's at.

Space Ace also has an Engineering Mode.  Setting DIP B3 ON before starting your game will enable Engineering Mode.  You can then use DIP A to select the scene.  Because of Space Ace's style of game play, the scene will not always start over at the beginning.  You will not have the problem with the laser disc player selection that you get with the Dragon's Lair ROMs, because Space Ace uses DIP B0 for player selection.
